To what degree do you wish to learn a language? I’d hope fluently, but that’s not always the case. I’ve spent a lot of time in Spanish speaking countries, and learned a good deal of the language just by listening to others talk. The most important aspect of learning a language is listening!

Now there are a few “Teach Yourself Spanish” products… Some better than others.

Teach Yourself Spanish Complete Course (Book + 2CD’s) by Teach Yourself Recordings is a great addition to your ipod or home system to teach yourself the basics. The set is easy to use and easy to listen to and is informative. But in such a wide and diverse language, it will only provide you with the basics.

If you’re visiting a Spanish speaking country as a tourist, and only wish to have a simple command of the language then this set is for you. It’s inexpensive and very helpful.
