Getting rid of the Virtumonde Trojan without purchasing programs
It’s always a horrible situation when an unsuspecting internet user runs across a virus or trojan. You were browsing the web normally (or looking at some more suspect TV/porn related sites) and the next thing you know, your computer’s infected with a godforsaken trojan.
Right now mine is infected with the lovely Virtumonde virus. AVG keeps informing me that it has stopped the trojan, meanwhile pop ups which are unrelated to my browser are appearing, and SpyBot keeps informing me of requested changes that seem to be wanting to be made to the registry. Brilliant.
So, after a long amount of searching I came across SpyZilla. I downloaded the program, thinking that it was free and though it does seem helpful, and a good defense against this… I have to register at a subscription cost (yet another subscription…)
This is the solution I found, without using SpyZilla (though it looks great and is pretty inexpensive) is by using ComboFix and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware.
I cannot praise Malwarebytes enough. After having not cleared the Trojan, the first time, I was instructed to restart. I did so, used the software again and now my computer is clean. Thoroughly recommended.
